INSTRUCTIONS TO CLAIMANTS for REWARDS of the ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY, setting forth the particulars of the case of BENJAMIN DAVIES EVANS who risked his own life in attempting to rescue an unknown Chinese male from being drowned at Hongkong on the 25th January, 1920.

Benjamin Davies Evans, age 33 years, First Assistant to the Director of the Royal Observatory, Hongkong.

About 10.30 a.m. 25th January, 1920. In the In the Harbour, Hongkong, about midway across, exact depth unknown, but about 40 feet. strong current was flowing and the day was bitterly cold,

A Chinese male jumped off the Ferry Launch and was forty or fifty yards astern when B.D.Evans jumped overboard while fully clothed with the exception of his coat.

About 4 minutes. Chinese male was unconscious when brought on board the ferry launch.

Chinese male was removed to the Government Civil Hospital and there died of the effects of the immersion.

Artificial respiration was practised but without success by B. D. Evans and later by a qualified doctor.

This paper to be accompanied by certificates of one or more eye-witness who should add their profession or trade after signature, and state fully in their om handwriting, the precise nature of the claimant's exertions, showing the actual risk he thereby incurred.

Should the patient have been taken to a Public House, a certificate of the Landlord, verified also by the Medical Attendent should be attached, and stating what accommodation was afforded.
